CHAPTER 4 — The Betrayal

Katherine froze.
Her blood ran cold.
“What did you say?”
The blonde woman smirked.
“He knew.”
The husband shouted.
“Shut up!”
Too late.
She continued.
“He researched you before meeting you.”
“He knew you were Victor Laurent’s daughter.”
Katherine slowly turned.
Her husband couldn’t meet her eyes.
No.
No…
It couldn’t be true.
She whispered:
“Tell me she’s lying.”
Silence.
Tears filled her eyes.
“Tell me.”
Still silence.
That was answer enough.
Katherine’s heart shattered.
Every memory replayed.
Their first meeting.
Their first date.
His sweet words.
His proposal.
His promises.
All fake?
All planned?
Her voice broke.
“You knew?”
He cried.
“Yes… but I loved you later, I swear!”
Victor exploded.
“You parasite!”
The husband screamed.
“It wasn’t like that!”
But Katherine no longer heard him.
Only one truth mattered.
Even the beginning was a lie.
Everything.
Every kiss.
Every promise.
Every “I love you.”
Built on deception.
She stared at him.
For a moment…
He saw nothing in her eyes.
No love.
No anger.
Nothing.
That terrified him most.
Then she spoke.
Softly.
Calmly.
“I regret meeting you.”
That sentence hit harder than a slap.
He collapsed.
Broken.
Finished.
Katherine turned to Victor.
“Take me home.”
Victor nodded.
As they walked out—
The husband screamed after her.
“I DO LOVE YOU!”
She paused at the doorway.
Without turning back, she said:
“If that’s love…”
“I want nothing to do with it.”
The door closed.
And his world ended.
Or so he thought.
Because three months later—
Katherine received shocking news.
May you like
Her ex-husband…
Had disappeared.
